Install and connect on Mac

Get your Spools files into Finder.

You need macOS 26.4 or newer and a General Motion account.

Install

  1. Download Spools, open the DMG, and drag Spools into Applications.
  2. Open Spools and click Sign In.
  3. When asked to approve the file system extension, click Open System Settings and turn on Spools. If you see Login Items & Extensions, switch Extensions to By Category and click ⓘ beside File System Extensions; the By App switch does not work.

Connect a Drive

Open Drives and turn on your Drive. It opens in Finder under ~/Spools. Copy files in to upload them; Activity shows progress. You can connect one Drive at a time.

Cache

Spools keeps the parts of files you open on your Mac, up to 20 GB by default. Raise the Cache limit in Drives (up to 200 GB) to keep more footage local. It is not an offline copy.

If a Drive does not appear

  • Check the extension is on under By Category → File System Extensions, then click Refresh in Drives.
  • Check you signed in with the right account.
  • Read the error in Activity.
